Minnie Mouse wearing trousers is ‘destroying the fabric of our society’, says Candace Owens
Minnie Mouse got a new pantsuit and the American far-right is taking its culture war obsession to new levels.
In a week that has seen Fox News pundits obsess the apparent sexiness of anthropomorphized M&Ms, Candace Owens has now claimed that putting Minnie Mouse in anything other than a dress is “trying to destroy fabrics of our society”.
It all started when it was revealed that the iconic character had been given a makeover to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Disneyland Paris.
Minnie Mouse ditched her traditional polka dot dress for a black and blue trouser suit designed by Stella McCartney.

The outfit change – which is also a tribute to Women’s History Month – isn’t even the first time Minnie has changed her outfit, however, the news left Owens incensed.
Speaking on Fox News, she said: “This is why people don’t take these people seriously. They’re taking all of these things that nobody was offended by.
“It’s like they have to get rid of them and destroy them because they’re bored. You know, they’re absolutely bored. They’re trying to destroy fabrics of our society, pretending that there’s issues.”
Owens then continued: “So, everybody looks over here. Look at Minnie Mouse, don’t look at inflation, Jesse. Look at Minnie Mouse! The world is going forward because you’ve got her in a pantsuit.
“Never mind that you can’t get anything at the grocery store and you can’t buy a piece of bacon unless you’ve got $30 (£22) in your pocket. At least we’re addressing the real problem, which is Minnie Mouse!”
I truly didn’t realize that Minnie wearing a pantsuit for a limited time engagement for a theme park in Europe had direct effects on inflation in that states. I guess that must mean Captain Minnie is the reason my student debts interest rates went up. pic.twitter.com/g2xEBTQAsp— 🌸PastelColoredMoose🌺 (@StrawHatCody) January 27, 2022
We imagine Owens will have plenty to talk about the next time she’s in a room with Fox News anchor Tucker Carlson after he passionately complained that the new design of M&M’s mascots made them “less sexy”.
His comments came after M&M’s redesign was announced to “align with the fact that consumers value inclusion” and highlight the company’s “global commitment to creating a world where everyone feels they belong, and society is inclusive”.
The fact Green M&M has swapped her boots for trainers left Carlson moaning that the character is now “unappealing and totally androgynous”.
