Spice Girls split up – again – with film and reunion gigs reportedly scrapped: ‘They’re done’

Spice Girls fans praying for the iconic fivesome to reunite are in for yet more disappointment as comeback plans have been reportedly scrapped.
The cheeky British girl band defined the 1990s with songs about female empowerment, smilin’ and dancin’.
But those hoping to relive the pop group’s gloriously camp heyday will see their dreams dashed. Sources told The Sun that future plans for an animated film, a 2023 world tour and other gigs have been binned amid COVID-19.
“It was going to be brilliant,” the insider said. “But COVID killed the momentum.”

With the wily Omnicron variant ripping through the world, the entire spice rack – Geri Horner (Ginger), Melanie Brown (Scary), Emma Bunton (Baby), Melanie Chisholm (Sporty) and Victoria Beckham (Posh) – have all cleared their schedules.
“Now it’s done again,” the source claimed. “There’s nothing on the agenda and they’re focusing on their own things.”
Horner and Brown, aka Mel B, had been the main driving force behind the reunion tour.

While Beckham has vastly distanced herself from the reunion, she was slated to appear in the cartoon film. The five will, however, still come together for Beckham’s son Brooklyn’s wedding with Nicola Peltz.
The animation special produced by Paramount Animation would have seen the quintet don capes and become superheroes and wage a battle to reclaim “Girl Power” all while singing some of their greatest hits – and a few new tracks, too.
Originally in the works from 2020, it was to be produced by 1990s music mogul Simon Fuller and written by Karen McCullah and Kiwi Smith of Legally Blonde and 10 Things I Hate About You.
“The girls loved being back on stage and it reinvigorated their love for performing,” the insider added.
“But a few years of lockdown and everyone’s back has turned on the group in favour of other projects.”
“Geri is talking about new TV things, Emma has TV and radio work and the two Mels [Mel B and Mel C] are focusing on their own stuff.

“Victoria certainly isn’t going to be the one to bring it back to life – so it has fizzled out.
“They’re done.”
And that sound you hear is a million gay man’s hearts tearing in two.
The Spice Girls were briefly back together for a 13-date reunion tour in the UK in 2019 – nearly two decades after they split in 2000.
While Beckham was noticeably absent – she was focusing on her fashion career – the tour was still, well, sufficiently camp. During a Manchester gig, two gay fans even proposed to one another on-stage.
