Rising star Democrat Malcolm Kenyatta shares gorgeous wedding to new husband: ‘Forever sounds good’

Philadelphia representative Malcolm Kenyatta has tied the knot with his new husband, Matthew Jordan-Miller Kenyatta.

The Democrat announced the joyful news on social media on Sunday (6 February), posting happy snaps of the couple with the caption “Forever sounds pretty good”.

His husband, a humanities scholar, shared the photos with the caption: “New chapter with my life’s co-author.”

For any people wanting to buy the Kenyattas wedding gifts, the couple asked instead for donations to be directed towards The Trevor Project and The North Broad Renaissance.

The couple first got to know each other over social media. In 2016, Malcolm Kenyatta decided to follow Matthew Jordan-Miller on Instagram after seeing him featured as an LGBT+ leader to watch. Jordan-Miller is a scholar whose work explores urban architecture and community.

Eventually, their interactions over social media blossomed into a long-distance relationship, before Jordan-Miller later joined Kenyatta in Philadelphia. Kenyatta proposed to his partner in 2020 at the Shofuso Japanese Garden, and Jordan-Miller was quick to counter-propose the next year.

One Twitter user complimented their picture-perfect wedding, writing: “This couple exemplifies love day in and day out while balancing extremely demanding schedules. Their love is something to be studied. Couldn’t be happier for The Kenyattas. Also, can they be more handsome?”

Malcolm Kenyatta, who is the grandson of Muhammed Kenyatta, has already made history as the first openly queer person of colour to be elected to the Pennsylvania General Assembly. Kenyatta has previously announced his bid to become a US senator from Philadelphia in the upcoming election.

In recent years, there have been increasing numbers of openly LGBT+ politicians in American politics. In 2020, over 1000 LGBT+ candidates ran for positions in nationalwide elections.

As a politician, Kenyatta is committed to a wide-range of issues including: reforming the criminal justice system, creating a fairer economy and tackling climate change. Previously, Kenyatta supported Joe Biden in his bid to run as president in 2020.
