Anne Hathaway and Zendaya advert declared the ‘lesbian murder mystery’ we never knew we needed

Anne Hathaway and Zendaya have dropped the internet’s collective jaws with their new Bulgari advertising campaign.

The new ad stars the two feted actors in what can only be described as a reverent lesbian murder mystery noir.

“Unexpected Wonders”, shot by Paolo Sorrentino, Is described as a short film that “dazzles and excites” in the same luxurious way that productions like Killing Eve and I Care a Lot do, ensnaring the senses in a grip of auspicious queerness that you don’t expect, but didn’t know you needed.

“First, [comes] the cold. But, then comes the warmth, and the breath of freedom,” Anne Hathaway says as Zendaya approaches her in the clip.

“To lose yourself, then find yourself again,” she adds.

According to social media, it’s a metaphor for queer liberation so obvious you could see it from space.

Writer Meech posted the Bulgari advert in a tweet, writing: “I’m kind of OBSESSED with this Zendaya and Anne Hathaway promo for Bulgari! It feels like a sexy rich lesbian murder drama. Carol II: Carol of the Belles.”

The rest of Twitter exploded in adoration, with some proclaiming Zendaya and Anne Hathaway the “celebrity duo we never knew we needed”.

Excitable fans began to flesh out their own plots for the two minute advert, which sees the pair lounge around a hotel sweet before holding each other as the sun sets.

One user said: “Let’s all pretend Anne Hathaway and Zendaya’s Bulgari short film is actually the first promo for Ocean’s Nine and see if that convinces Warner Bros. to make it.”

Whether the two are supposed to be the world’s chicest jewellery thieves, or simply star-crossed lovers caught in a whirlwind of luxury, one thing is certain – the advert has gone down a treat.
