Halsey eloquently expresses America’s fears and fury in wake of Texas school shooting

Halsey opened up about her fears as a mother and slammed US lawmakers for “protecting guns” over “our youth” following the tragic Uvalde school shooting.
On Tuesday (24 May) an active shooter entered a Texas elementary school, shooting and killing 19 children and two teachers and injuring 17 more people.
The shooting has left countless Americans horrified and shaken, with many calling on lawmakers to introduce stricter gun controls to prevent such tragedies.
Among those to speak out was Halsey. The singer, who gave birth to their son Ender in 2021, said: “Just like many of you as a mother I am scared. As a big sister I am scared. As a citizen I am angry.”
Halsey added: “It is so difficult to make statements and engage in conversations about lives lost to gun violence because it is so frequent and so horrific.”
In their statement of anger and despair they told followers to make sure their voices are heard by voting.
“I can’t think of anything to say besides make sure you’re registered to vote,” Halsey said. “I just want all school age children to be protected and not grow up in the epicentre of this trauma.”

They rounded off by saying: “It is so futile and revolting that lawmakers protect guns over our youth. It’s despicable.”
Hordes of celebrities have expressed similar sentiments of anger and disgust at American leaders. Chris Evans, Kerry Washington, Selena Gomez, Britney Spears, Matthew McConaughey and more have spoken out against gun violence in the wake of the Uvalde shooting.
Football player Megan Rapinoe told CBS Sports: “The entire country is being completely held hostage, as Steve Kerr said last night. And I mean, quite literally, hostage. In a hostile environment where you can go to church, you can go to the grocery store, or you can go to school and end up dead.”
The Uvalde school shooting is the 27th school shooting in the US this year alone, and the deadliest since the 2012 attack at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, in which 20-year-old Adam Lanza shot and killed 20 school children and six adult members of staff.
