Britney Spears finally confirms musical comeback with major duet and fans can’t deal
Britney Spears has confirmed her return to music, with a new duet with Elton John.
“Hold Me Closer” will be a new rendition of Elton’s beloved 1972 classic “Tiny Dancer”, and will mark Britney’s first new song since she was released from her conservatorship.
Elton and Britney team up for a secret recording session in July.
According to Page Six, an insider said the collaboration was “Elton’s idea, and Britney is a huge fan”. They added that the song “is incredible,” and everybody at the label “is freaking out. It is so good”.
Rumours of a collaboration have been swirling for weeks, but official confirmation came on Monday (8 August) when Elton John shared an image of a a rose and rocket emoji alongside the words “hold me closer” on Instagram.
Fans could barely contain their excitement as one wrote: “AHHH BRITNEY IS COMING”
“ELTON & BRITNEY!! 2 LEGENDS ON 1 SONG!! WE’RE READY!! WE NEED TO GET IT TO NUMBER ONE!!” a second cheered, while another added: “OMFG ITS ACTUALLY HAPPENING EVERYBODY STAY CALM.”
“Hold Me Closer” is being produced by Andrew Watt, who has contributed to Camilla Cabello’s “Havana”, Miley Cyrus’ “Midnight Sky”, Dua Lipa’s “Break My Heart” and Justin Bieber’s “Peaches”. It will be released later in August.

Britney Spears’ last musical project was her 2016 album Glory, which included the hit “Slumber Party” featuring Tinashe.
“Hold Me Closer” will mark her to long-awaited return to music. The singer put her career on hold to fight the conservatorship that controlled her life from 2008m finally winning her freedom in November 2021.
Britney likened the conservatorship to trafficking, and said that she was prevented from marrying or having children while under its control.
She has since married Sam Asghari in an intimate ceremony at her home in Los Angeles, which was gate crashed by her ex-husband Jason Alexander.
Alexander has pleaded not guilty to charges of stalking, trespassing, battery and vandalism.
Recently Britney was forced to speak out after her second husband Kevin Federline, the father of her two sons, suggested that her children do not want to see her because of her naked pictures.
Britney said: “It saddens me to hear that my ex husband has decided to discuss the relationship between me and my children.
““As we all know, raising teenage boys is never easy for anyone. It concerns me the fact that the reasons is based on my Instagram… it was LONG before Instagram.”
