Britney Spears opens up about strained relationship with sons as ex slammed for ‘exploiting’ rift
Britney Spears has opened up about her sons choosing not to visit her, saying it’s not because of her “naked pictures”, as ex-husband Kevin Federline claimed.
Federline was granted sole custody of their two sons, Sean and Jayden, at the beginning of Britney Spears’ conservatorship in 2008.
On 5 August, Federline revealed that the teenagers had stopped visiting their mother, claiming that they find it “tough” that she posts nude photos to Instagram in a Daily Mail interview.
Spears hit back at Federline’s claims in a now-deleted lengthy Instagram post on Wednesday (10 August) explaining why she thinks her children don’t see her.
The “Circus” singer said “the teenage age is weird”, adding “I don’t know what’s going on in their heads”.
The singer said she tried to fix the strained relationship with her sons by leading a “devotion” where they would read “two or three pages in a prayer book”.
Spears admitted this may have been the reason “why they stopped coming” and said: “I wanted them to love me so much that I might have overdone it!!!”
When her sons told her “we may come less”, the singer accepted it because, “they have their own thing going on”.
However, she expressed that she felt her sons were being “pretty harsh”.
Spears also revealed she had a conversation with Federline about their sons’ decisions, claiming he told her: “I would never let them make that decision on their own … I would never do that to you.”
After Spears’ post, Federline retaliated with a series of private videos showing Spears talking to her children sternly.
He captioned it: “I hope our kids grow up to be better than this.”
In one video, Britney argued with one of her boys over skincare, telling him: “This is my house, if I wanna come in here and give you lotion for your face because it is coarse, and all you tell me is ‘it’s fine, it’s fine’. No it’s not fine.”
“You better all start respecting me, are we clear? You all need to start treating me like a woman with worth. I am a woman, OK? Be nice to me. Do you understand?” she added, as reported by The Mirror.
Federline deleted the videos shortly after posting them, however fans were quick to condemn him for his actions.
I can’t believe Kevin Federline is willing to exploit his kids like this. They are teenagers who are mad at their mom. You are an adult who should fucking know better than to use their hormonal rage against her and possibly damage their relationship forever.

Kevin Federline is a miserable excuse for a father. That is all.— Greg Ellis 🏴☠️ (@ellisgreg) August 11, 2022
i cant begin to explain how livid i am from that insta post. secret recordings of arguments between a mother and her disrespectful ass kids are not something that’s needs to be posted to the public. go fuck yourself kevin federline— Donovan⸆⸉ (@donovan_smi) August 11, 2022
Kevin Federline finally proves to be the complete scumbag so many thought he was. What a disgusting & despicable PR move, after all Britney’s been through. To use & mislead her kids against her, the week she’s dropping new music. I’m sick. He is truly vile. https://t.co/URpVzdECYe— Andy Signore (@andysignore) August 6, 2022
This isn’t the first time Spears has slammed Federline for talking about the relationship she has with her kids.
In a recent Instagram story Spears wrote: “It saddens me to hear that my ex-husband has decided to discuss the relationship between me and my children.
“As we all know, raising teenage boys is never easy for anyone. It concerns me the fact that the reasons is based on my Instagram… it was LONG before Instagram. I gave them everything… Only one word: HURTFUL.”
