All the best, worst and most jaw-dropping looks from MTV VMAs 2022 – from Lil Nas X to Lizzo

The MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) are over for another year, and as always, the stars’ red carpet fashion is dominating the conversation.
Dove Cameron, Taylor Swift, Bad Bunny and Harry Styles were among the major winners on the night, which saw some of the biggest names in music coming out in force in New Jersey. Other winners included Lil Nas X, Måneskin and The Weeknd.
But it wasn’t all about the artists who picked up the gongs – many stars stole the show with their wild stunning styles. We take a look at some of the most notable looks of the night, from Lizzo’s unparalleled elegance to Taylor Swift’s instantly iconic dress.
1. Lizzo

You can always count on Lizzo to deliver the goods at an awards show.
The “About Damn Time” singer showed up wearing a dark blue satin ballgown from Jean-Paul Gaultier. The look was completed with some elegant black lipstick paired with a lip ring.
It all feels distinctly emo – but make it fashion – and we’re here for it.
2. Taylor Swift

Nobody was really expecting Taylor Swift to show up to the 2022 VMAs – fans certainly weren’t, at the very least.
But turn up she did. The singer arrived in a glittering Oscar de la Renta minidress, and she quickly won praise from fashion magazines for the “flapper” inspired look.
The dress is completed with silver chains, pearls and clear jewels – the perfect outfit to wear while casually announcing a new album.
3. Dove Cameron

Dove Cameron brought some big bondage energy to the VMAs, and everyone loved it.
The “Boyfriend” singer wore a floral gown with three belts – one around her waist, one around her chest, and a third around her neck.
Nobody can be in any doubt that Cameron’s career will go from strength to strength after her bold display at the VMAs.
4. Lil Nas X

Lil Nas X is trying his best to rival Billy Porter in the awards ceremony outfit stakes, and he’s doing a really, really good job at it.
The “Industry Baby” singer arrived wearing a Harris Reed look with a giant statement feather headpiece and a matching skirt.
The outfit went down a storm on social media – pretty much everyone wants to throw themselves at Lil Nas X’s feet and worship him.
5. Bob the Drag Queen

Bob the Drag Queen delivered the goods at the 2022 VMAs, which is impressive considering how last-minute his outfit was.
The Drag Race winner turned up in a custom-made outfit made up of a jacket on top and a frilly white skirt on the bottom. The whole look was pulled together by some gold jewellery and a handbag.
In a TikTok video, Bob revealed he only found out the day before the event that he was attending the VMAs. As he was away from home, he had to rapidly assemble his own outfit.
We think it’s a win – as is everything Bob does.
6. Billy Eichner

Billy Eichner served some big dad energy with his look – a sheer black top paired with black trousers and black shoes.
It’s giving “man in his forties goes to a gay bar” vibes, and to be honest, we’re here for it.
7. Kerri Colby

It’s hard not to be bowled over by Kerri Colby at the best of times, but her VMAs look somehow managed to take her wow factor a step further.
The Drag Race star wore a Mugler red bodysuit with see-through cutouts. She completed the look with long, flowing red hair.
Once again, Kerri has proven she can do no wrong.
8. Colton Haynes

Teen Wolf star Colton Haynes went for simplicity with a bright lime green Dior suit. He finished the look with a brooch and a pair of sunglasses.
The result lies somewhere between a tennis ball and U2 frontman Bono, but we still give Haynes credit for trying something a little different.
9. Anitta

Is there even anything we can say about Anitta’s look that will do it justice?
The Brazilian singer, who was nominated in the best Latin video category, wore a red Schiaparelli corset with a gorgeous detail over her breast along with a floor length red skirt.
Needless to say, she blew away pretty much everyone with the instantly iconic look.
10. Peppermint

Drag Race icon Peppermint served some big rock energy with her studded leather dress.
The look is perfected with a leather studded choker around her neck and her curly pink hair.
We’re 100 per cent here for the grungy aesthetic – Peppermint is a superstar, and she never lets us forget it.
