Lindsay Lohan pays tribute to ex-boyfriend Aaron Carter: 'A lot of love there'

Lindsay Lohan has paid tribute to her ex-boyfriend Aaron Carter, after he died at the age of 34.

The bisexual singer and actor was found dead in his California home on Saturday (5 November), with his representatives telling TMZ that it is a “really bad time”, and they are “trying to figure out what happened”.

Lohan, who reportedly dated Carter when they were both teenagers between 2002 and 2003, paid tribute to Carter after his death, telling Entertainment Tonight that she still had “a lot of love” for Carter and his family.

“My heart goes out to his family and may he rest in peace… God bless him… a lot of love there,” she said.

The singer, who came out as bisexual in 2017, was a child star, beginning his music career by opening shows for his brother Nick Carter’s boy band, Backstreet Boys.

He became a pop star in the 1990s and early 2000s, releasing his first album when he was just nine years old.

Throughout his later life, Carter struggled with addiction and mental health conditions, telling Men’s Health in 2019 that he had bipolar disorder and schizophrenia.

Brother Nick, 42, acknowledged in an Instagram tribute that the pair had a “complicated relationship”, but that “addiction and mental illness is the real villain here”.

He said after Aaron’s death: “My heart is broken. Even though my brother and I have had a complicated relationship, my love for him has never ever faded.

“I have always held on to the hope that he would somehow, someday want to walk a healthy path and eventually find the help that he so desperately needed.

“Sometimes we want to blame someone or something for a loss, but the truth is that addiction and mental illness is the real villain here… Now you can finally have the peace you could never find here on earth.”

Hillary Duff, with whom Carter starred in an episode of Lizzie McGuire, said on Instagram: “For Aaron – I’m deeply sorry that life was so hard for you and that you had to struggle in front of the whole world.

“You had a charm that was absolutely effervescent… Boy did my teenage self love you deeply. Sending love to your family at this time. Rest easy.”

Paris Hilton added in a tribute: “Sad to hear about the news of Aaron Carter, he was always kind to my family and I. He had a good heart.”

Carter’s fiancée Melanie Martin, with whom he had a son named Prince, told TMZ: “My fiancé Aaron Carter has passed away. I love Aaron with all my heart and it’s going to be a journey to raise a son without a father.

“Please respect the privacy of my family as we come to terms with the loss of someone we love greatly.

“We are still in the process of accepting this unfortunate reality. Your thoughts and prayers are greatly appreciated.”
