Lauren Boebert won’t be happy with her terrible US election results
Trump-loving anti-LGBTQ+ Republican Lauren Boebert is trailing behind in the race to be reelected in Colorado’s House of Representatives.
It was thought that the ultra-conservatative, far-right Boebert would comfortably win the House seat in Colorado’s third congressional district, a solidly red area.
FiveThirtyEight’s campaign forecaster reported that she had a 97 per cent chance of winning the election.
But with 93 per cent of the votes counted, the race is too close to call, with Boebert taking 49.4 per cent of the vote and her Democratic opponent Adam Frisch having 50.6 per cent.
While voting was ongoing, Boebert took to Twitter to declare that “the red wave has begun”.
“They called you cockroaches,” she wrote in one Tweet.
“They called you cult members. They called you extremists. They called you terrorists. Today, we call them losers!”
But as the results began gradually rolling in, her Twitter account went silent.
Boebert’s unexpectedly poor results may come down to her Trump-thumping politics, with many Trump-backed candidates failing to win votes as expected.
As he continues to fall out of favour with Republicans, CNN reported that, according to a Trump advisor, the former president had been “livid” and “screaming at everyone” as results came in.
Boebert first made headlines before she entered politics as after she opened a restaurant called Shooter’s Grill in Rifle, Colorado, where all staff members were encouraged to openly carry firearms while serving customers.
But Boebert’s views have become even more extreme and bizarre since she was elected in 2020, and sworn into Colorado’s House of Representatives in January 2021.
Lauren Boebert believes in QAnon, biblical citizenship training in schools, and degrees in ‘lesbian dance theory’
Soon after, she became the second congressperson to have openly supported the QAnon conspiracy theory, after Marjorie Taylor Greene, and has used her position to repeatedly attack LGBTQ+ rights.
Boebert has said she opposes “efforts to redefine marriage as anything other than the union of one man and one woman”, has described affirming LGBTQ+ kids as “sacrificing the safety and wellbeing of our children on the altar of radical leftist ideology”, claimed that president Joe Biden’s student loan forgiveness plan is funding degrees in “lesbian dance theory”, has called for children in public schools to undergo “biblical citizenship training”, and believes LGBTQ+ people should be forced to stay in the closet until they are 21.
The anti-mask, anti-vax, election-denying representative is also viciously Islamophobic, and once said in a speech that Democratic representative Ilhan Omar was a member of “the Jihad Squad”, and recalled a time when they shared an elevator: “She doesn’t have a backpack, she wasn’t dropping it and running, so we’re good.”
