I’m A Celeb’s Boy George in tears at Matt Hancock arrival: ‘I can’t sit here and have fun with him’
Boy George was seen in tears during Wednesday (9 November) night’s I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here episode as late arrival Matt Hancock entered the camp.
The former health secretary shocked everyone with his appearance, not least Boy George who opened up about his mum’s hospital treatment while Hancock was health secretary.
Speaking with camp mate Scarlette Douglas, he said: “You know, beginning of the pandemic my mum was in hospital. I wasn’t allowed to see her.
“I thought she was going to die. I was tweeting Greenwich hospital going, ‘Please look after my mum.’
“I used my name, I was like ‘Please look after my mum.’ And they did, she was fine. I feel like, I don’t want to be sitting here like I’m having fun with him.
Boy George added he would have left the reality show if the outcome had been different.
“It’s difficult for me because, you know, had something happened, if my mum had gone, I wouldn’t be here now. I would have gone when he walked in,” he added.
Speaking in the Bush Telegraph he said: “I feel a little bit selfish, you know, just kind of… everyone’s so nice to him and I was like Jesus, what are we going to do?
“I don’t want to spoil this experience for myself. I’m not good at hiding what I feel. Especially when it’s something so strong.”
After deciding to eat dinner privately, he said: “I don’t really know what to do with my feelings, you know, today was obviously quite emotional for me, I don’t know what it will be like. I don’t know if I want to be here.”
While many agreed with Boy George, others did point out the hypocrisy of Boy George taking a moral stance after his past conviction of false imprisonment.

But he was not the only contestant to make comments about Hancock, who spent the evening justifying his participation.

“All politicians are known, and me in particular, for being in a very sort of strict way of being. Which is just not how we are,” he told Douglas.
While he told Charlene White he wanted to show that politicians are human too, which led to her giving an epic look of skepticism to the camera.

Many viewers have shared their discomfort at Matt Hancock being given this platform to rehabilitate his image following his time as health secretary during the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic, when hundreds of people a day were dying with the disease.
“Kids had I’m A Celeb on last night,” one person wrote. “Five mins of Ant & Dec sniggering at Hancock and I couldn’t stomach it.
“Is being responsible for killing vulnerable people in care homes funny? Plus, nurses striking while he gets 400K to make a p***k of himself in the jungle is not a look.”
Anyone else finding this chummy normalisation of Matt Hancock repulsive?
He tried to close down my local Lewisham Hospital. He's one of the disgusting crew who has led us as a country where we are now.
Ignore this creep. This chancer. No trials. Nothing. Then out.#ImACeleb— Danny Baker (@prodnose) November 9, 2022
It’s not funny that MP Matt Hancock is on #ImACeleb not funny he’s getting £400k. Not funny that he didn’t get PPE to front life workers that died of Covid. Not funny that Nurses are striking at the same time. It’s not fucking funny at all. It’s sick.— Jolyon Rubinstein (@JolyonRubs) November 9, 2022
I don’t care how likeable, funny or “normal” Matt Hancock might come across on I’m A Celeb, I will not forget his actions & decisions during the pandemic. He’s went on this show to improve his public image and is being paid thousands for it. It’s a fucking joke. #ImACeleb pic.twitter.com/Vc4gW8pQPF— Ryan🦊 (@ryry_212) November 9, 2022
