Kanye West has asked Donald Trump to be his running mate in the 2024 US election.

The disgraced rapper this week announced his intention to run for the presidency in 2024, following in Trump’s lead.

Ye, as he is now known, shared on Twitter that he met the former US president at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida to ask for his support.

“First time at Mar-a-Lago… Can’t believe I kept President Trump waiting. And I had on jeans. Yikes,” Ye wrote on Twitter.

He added a poll with the question: “What you guys think [Trump’s] response was when I asked him to be my running mate in 2024?”

West recently officially announced his plan to run for the White House despite failing in his 2020 bid, with just 50,000 of 332 million people in the US deciding to vote for him.

His presidential campaign is already sounding like a dystopian nightmare for many members of the LGBTQ+ community, with the rapper recently announcing that alt-right commentator and ‘ex gay’ Milo Yiannopoulos is helping him to run it.

Ye has faced condemnation for his antisemitic comments in recent months, resulting in the end of his billion-dollar Yeezy line with Adidas.

Add Trump into the mix, the most anti-LGBTQ+ president in recent history, and there is a lot to be concerned about.

It’s not the first time that Ye has endorsed Trump. The pair met in 2018 while the latter was still in office. During a bizarre exchange, Trump referred to Ye as a long-term friend and Ye said that wearing a MAGA hat – a piece of fabric – gave him power.

Earlier this month, Trump announced his own bid for the White House, immediately using the opportunity to swipe at trans people for daring to take part in sport.

He said that if he won, he wouldn’t “let men… participate in women’s sports” as “it’s very unfair to women”.

However, LGBTQ+ activists are not taking his attempted return to power sitting down, with organisations like the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) vowing to continue opposing him at every turn.
