Fantastic Beasts actor Ezra Miller has referred to Jesus as a “queer radical.”

The actor, who himself identifies as queer, made the comments in an interview with ES Magazine on Thursday.

Miller said: “I’d like to chill with Jesus. He seemed like a queer, radical, person of colour who was resisting an occupying empire.”

Alluding to anti-LGBT evangelicals, he added: “I don’t know how it’s gotten so twisted up, you know what I mean?”

The actor continued: “I identify with every single faith in the world and none because they’re all f***ed-up. Quote me!”

A college professor previously sparked controversy by suggesting that Jesus Christ was a genderfluid drag king who had sex with men.

Professor Tat-siong Benny Liew, who teaches New Testament Studies at the College of the Holy Cross in Massachusetts, documented his unorthodox theories in a 2009 compilation of Biblical criticism.

“I am suggesting that John’s constant references to Jesus wanting water, giving water, and leaking water speak to Jesus’ gender indeterminacy and hence his cross-dressing and other queer desires,” the professor wrote, before also suggesting Jesus had a gay lover in the form of a Roman centurion

Letters claiming to have been written by Jesus were posted through letterboxes in Sydney’s gay district in October, threatening to inflict storms on the area if gay marriage was not banned.

Elsewhere in the interview, Ezra Miller opened up about facing negative attitudes in the film industry after coming out as queer in 2012.

He said: “There were people [in the industry] who gave me a rough time for coming out. Still, the years of exploration since have been ‘a beautiful, ongoing and very sexy journey.'”

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter earlier this week, Miller said he doesn’t see himself as a man or a woman.

He said: “I don’t identify. Like, f**k that.

“Queer just means no, I don’t do that. I don’t identify as a man. I don’t identify as a woman. I barely identify as a human.”

He also opened up about his own #MeToo moment, which came at the hands of a director and producer he declined to name.

“They gave me wine and I was underage,” said Miller. “They were like: ‘Hey, want to be in our movie about gay revolution?’ And I was like: ‘No, you guys are monsters.'”

The 26-year-old actor added that one shining light of the current period is the ability to call out “unacceptable” actions like these.

“We f***ing survived it. That’s what Hollywood is. I thought we all knew we were sex workers.”
