Cara Delevingne opens up about ‘swinging pendulum’ sexuality: ‘It changes all the time’
Cara Delevingne has described her sexuality as a “swinging pendulum”, explaining that the way she identifies “changes all the time”.
The 28-year-old gender-fluid model and actor has previously described herself as both pansexual and bisexual.
In an interview with Variety in June 2020, she explained: “I fall in love with the person – and that’s that.”
On Tuesday (22 June), Delevingne featured on the Pride special of Josh Smith’s Make it Reign podcast, and went into more detail about her identity.
She said: “The way I define myself still changes all the time, whether it’s pansexual, bisexual – I don’t really know.
“It’s like a pendulum swinging, but almost now I feel far more comfortable being bisexual than I used to.”
She explained that for a while, she threw herself into dating women because she felt she was “lacking” in her “desire for women or love for women”.
Delevingne continued: “I kind of just went one way and now it changes a lot more.
“I feel a lot more free and being more comfortable in it because before I was like, ‘Oh, I’m gay’. That comes with self-shaming.
“I will talk to myself so much worse than I would ever speak to any other human being in the entire world.
“No matter what, even someone who’s hurt me more than anyone, I will be so much nicer than that.”
Cara Delevingne recently revealed she battled suicidal thoughts before she embraced her sexuality.
Earlier this year, in an interview with Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop podcast, Cara Delevingne described her mental health struggles before she embraced her sexuality.
“I do correlate the massive depression and the suicidal moments of my life [to being queer] because I was so ashamed of ever being that.”
She added: “There is still a part of me where I’m like, ‘Oh, I wish I could just be straight.’ There is still that side to it. It is really complicated.
“But actually that was the part of me that I [now] love so much and accept.”
